Chennai. Indian tennis legend Anand Amritraj believes that the progress of rising Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal and his entry into the top 100 will depend on his fitness and pace. Nagal made headlines last month by making it to the second round of the Australian Open singles main draw. “Sumit Nagal’s progress depends on his fitness and agility because he cannot dominate many people,” Anand told PTI on the sidelines of the Davis Cup victory celebration event at the Madras Cricket Club here on Monday. He has to outwit them and score points.”
Nagal is currently ranked 121st in the ATP singles rankings and Anand is hopeful of breaking into the top 100 in the coming six months. He also hopes that Nagal will play regularly in Grand Slams. Apart from Nagal, Anand also backed two more Indian players from Tamil Nadu, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Mukund Sasikumar, to break into the top 100 in the coming months. He praised Ramkumar’s service but Anand believes that the 29-year-old needs to work on his forehand and backhand.
