Suniel Shetty recently revealed that he met his son-in-law and Indian cricketer KL Rahul for the first time in 2019 at an airport and then came to know that they are from the same hometown, Mangalore. Later he came to know that the cricketer already knew his daughter Athiya Shetty and both were on talks. The couple married on 23 January 2023 at Sunil’s farmhouse in Khandala.

Recently, the actor appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show to promote India’s first MMA reality show Kumite 1 Warrior Hunt. He also talked to Rahul about his daughter’s recent marriage. He talked about meeting the cricketer, not knowing that he and Athiya were already acquaintances. Another ‘happy coincidence’ for the actor was that Rahul’s parents’ house in Mangalore was very close to his place of birth.

According to a Mid-day report, Sunil Shetty said about the first meeting with Rahul, “I happened to meet Rahul for the first time at an airport. I was thrilled to know that he was from my hometine Mangalore. He had fans. and were happy to see that he was doing well. When I came home and shared the news with Athiya and Mana (wife), they didn’t say much; they just looked at each other. Later Mana told me That Athiya and Rahul talk.”

He said, “I was surprised that Athiya never mentioned it to me. (At the same time), I was happy as I had always asked Athiya to join South Indian boys. Rahul’s house in Mangalore (where his parents live) father resides). Few kilometers away from my birthplace (Mulki). So, it was a happy coincidence.”

Talking about Sunil Shetty’s upcoming film, he will be seen in Hera Pheri 3, in which Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal are also with him. Earlier this week, a promo announcement was shot for the film. Paresh had shared that the shooting of the film would begin in three months and the lead trio of Raju, Shyam and Babu Bhaiya would be traveling internationally for the third film.
