Gadar – Ek Prem Katha (2001) is not only one of the biggest hits of Indian cinema, but also a film that continues to be loved and watched regularly even 22 years after its release. Sunny Deol talked about this aspect at the re-release premiere of Gadar – Ek Prem Katha held in Mumbai on Friday, June 9. Sunny Deol opens up on the challenges he faced in getting Gadar released in theatres. Sunny Deol said, when Gadar – Ek Prem Katha was released, we did not know that this film would create a riot. People used to say, this is a Punjabi film. Dub it in Hindi. Some distributors said, I will not buy this film. So we had to face many problems. But the public liked the film so much that they all got their mouths shut! He is the one who gave us the courage to make part 2.
Gadar – Ek Prem Katha was re-released nationwide on June 9, as the sequel, Gadar 2, is all set to hit the theaters on August 11 this year. Like the first part, Gadar 2 also stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma.
Any discussion on Gadar – Ek Prem Katha with Sunny Deol is incomplete without mentioning the iconic handpump scene. When Sunny was asked if he would once again pick up handpumps to beat the miscreants, Sunny Deol jokingly said, this time people hid all the handpumps. Already out.
