Tamim had earlier announced his retirement from international cricket on 6 July, but changed his mind after a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. His latest decision means that Bangladesh will get a new ODI captain ahead of the mega event in India from October 5 to November 19.

Though Tamim will also be unavailable for the Asia Cup to be hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 31 to September 17, he should be fit for the ODI series against New Zealand starting September 21 at home before the World Cup arrives. Want to

“I believe injury is an issue. I took an injection (on July 28) but it is like hit or miss. I have told them (Bangladesh Cricket Board) about the problem. I have always The thing has helped the team.”

Tamim told reporters at a press conference, “So keeping that in mind, stepping down is the best possible decision. I want to give my best as a player whenever the opportunity arises. I have spoken to the Prime Minister and he Understood.”

On 28 July, the BCB said that Tamim had seen a spine specialist in the United Kingdom, with senior doctor Dr. Debashish Chowdhary traveling with him. “Tamim consulted a spine specialist for his ongoing back pain and underwent an aggressive pain management procedure yesterday.”

“He will be under observation for the next two days and will be re-evaluated to determine the outcome of the process,” Chowdhary said in a BCB statement at the time.

BCB Cricket Operations President Jalal Younis told reporters that Tamim was suffering from pain in his L4 and L5 vertebrae, which are the two lowest vertebrae of the lumbar spine. “The diagnosis was that his pain originated from the L4 and L5 discs. He was given two injections. The second injection on July 28 brought relief from the pain.”
