Telangana High Court asks Censor Board to take decision on Vyuham by February

Hyderabad. The Telangana High Court on Monday asked the Censor Board to take a decision on renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s controversial film ‘Vyuham’ before February 9.

The court directed the revising committee to review the film once again and submit its report to the court before February 9.

The matter came up for hearing before a division bench on Monday and both sides presented their arguments before it.

The single judge bench had earlier asked the censor board to take a decision on issuing a fresh censor certificate within three weeks.

On January 22, the court had extended the suspension of the censor certificate for the political thriller by three weeks. The judge has directed the revising committee of the Censor Board to review the film once again and remove the objectionable scenes.

The order came on a plea by producer Dasari Kiran Kumar, who had sought removal of the interim order suspending the release of the film in theatres.

The film, which is reportedly based on TDP president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, was originally scheduled to release on 29 December 2023.

Naidu’s son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh had approached the High Court challenging the film’s censor certificate. The High Court suspended the release on 28 December on the grounds that the review committee failed to explain its reasons for granting the certificate to the film, while initially rejecting the application, citing several irregularities.

The court found that the revision committee issued the certificate even though no major deletions or changes were made. It is said that this film is based on former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and his son Y.S. It is about the circumstances surrounding the entry into politics of Jagan Mohan Reddy, now the Chief Minister.

In his petition, Lokesh had challenged the release certificate of the film, alleging that the controversial film was an attempt to malign the image of Chandrababu Naidu.
