Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore were the guests in the latest episode of ‘Koffee with Karan 8’. The mother-son duo made several revelations, including the fact that Sharmila Tagore was diagnosed with cancer and had to reject ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, and discussed many personal details. Tagore also revealed about her famous cover shot in bikini, a photo shoot which created a massive uproar in those days.
Sharmila Tagore seen in bikini on the cover page
Host Karan Johar definitely knows how to talk to celebs. The last episode of ‘Koffee with Karan 8’ was no different. He asked Sharmila Tagore about her famous magazine cover shot in bikini, which had become the talk of the town at that time. He asked the veteran actor, “Your famous bikini shot… you know which shot I’m talking about. No one else wanted this to happen. Even the photographer had some concerns about doing this.”
Saif Ali Khan immediately said, “In my boarding school people used to ask me, is that your mother? I was very proud of it.” Sharmila Tagore revealed, “Yes, the photographer was a little worried and I thought I looked great. Later I felt really sad because everyone interpreted it in a way that I was upwardly mobile, I was trying to get people’s attention. I didn’t do that.” It doesn’t feel like that. When it came to Filmfare, I was in London and I didn’t know until Shakthi (Samanth, director) ji called me and said, will you come back soon? Terrible things are happening here. He said if you want to be in the public eye, this is not the way.”
‘Questions asked in Parliament’
When Karan Johar compared the reaction to modern social media trolling, Sharmila Tagore also nodded and said, “I can’t tell you… I believe the questions were asked in Parliament. It was not pleasant for me. After that, I became very careful and I chose ‘Aradhana’. This was the ‘RRR’ of our times.”
Sharmila Tagore was recently seen in ‘Gulmohar’, which released on Disney+Hotstar.
