Prakash Mehra was born on 13 July 1939 in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. The mother passed away when he was five years old. Father had left destitute at the age of 8 years. It is a matter of 1973. At that time Amitabh Bachchan had proved to be a flop actor. Many of his previous films were continuous flops. Prakash Mehra decided to make ‘Zanjeer’. He first approached Dharmendra. Since Dharmendra was one of the top actors of that time, they wanted to cast him, but he did not have dates. After this Prakash thought that the superstar should be replaced by a superstar, but no one was getting ready for this movie. Then one day he got a call from his senior Pran (actor). He took him with him to see the film ‘Bombay to Goa’ and there he introduced Amitabh Bachchan.

Prakash was deeply shocked as he had mortgaged his house, wife’s jewelry and everything for this film. But then he got a call that the film is getting good response. After this, calls started coming to him from different parts of the country and this movie proved to be one of the most successful films of the Hindi film industry. This was the first movie of his production house ‘Prakash Mehra Productions’.

After this Prakash Mehra and Amitabh Bachchan gave 6 more blockbuster movies. These include ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Khoon Pasina’, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’, ‘Lawaris’, ‘Namak Halal’ and ‘Sharabi’. These films also removed the tag of flop actor from the head of Amitabh Bachchan. Their last movie together was ‘Jaadugar’ and it was also a super hit.
