The film’s director’s statement came on the failure of Fighter, said- How will they watch the film in a country where 90% people are not sitting in the plane?

‘Fighter’, which released on January 25, received a lukewarm response at the box office. Director Siddharth Anand shared his views on this. He believed that ‘Fighter’ did not take off well as audiences felt that the genre was ‘obscure and completely new’. He also said that a large section of the country’s population has not experienced air travel, ‘making it challenging for them to connect with a film that depicts such experiences.’

Siddharth Anand says, ‘Audiences feel that ‘Fighter’ is a bit alien’

Speaking to Galata Plus, Siddharth Anand said that the genre of ‘Fighter’ is ‘a bit alien’ to the Indian audience. The film received much appreciation from the audience and critics. Elaborating more about it he said, “Another thing is the genre. ‘Fighter’ is a big leap for a filmmaker. It is a space that is unknown and completely new. There is no reference point for the audience. No. They’re like, ‘What are these planes doing?'”

He further added, “A large percentage of our country, I would say, 90 percent, who have not been on an airplane, who have not been to an airport, how will they know what’s happening in the film? This is my dissection. They thought it was a bit strange. They didn’t understand what kind of excitement they were supposed to feel in aerial action, so there’s a certain initial disconnection. But once you enter the theater, you realize That’s such a basic movie.”

In an interview, Siddharth Anand talked about the poor opening of ‘Fighter’ at the box office. He also highlighted two factors that could affect the film’s first day collections. He said that the film’s collection declined due to its release on a working day and the audience being away from the genre.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, ‘Fighter’ is based on a story he co-wrote with Ramon Chibs. Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor play the lead roles in the aerial action film.
