India is finally getting the recognition it deserves at the world’s most prestigious Academy Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited RRR fame Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Karan Johar, filmmaker Mani Ratnam and music composer MM Keeravani to become members of the academy. The Academy has sent out invitations to 398 of the world’s biggest names to join them, including Taylor Swift and K.J. International stars like Hui Quan are included. Among the Indians who have been invited are Shaunak, the filmmaker of the documentary ‘All Tad Breathes’ and KK Senthil Kumar, the cinematographer of RRR, and Chandrabose, the lyricist of ‘Naatu Naatu’.

According to the Academy’s rules, those selected to become members are qualified based on the type of work they do. Along with this, looking at the kind of work he is doing and his contribution in the world of cinema-music, this invitation is sent. “The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals to its membership,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang. If all 398 people who have been invited to become Academy members accept it, the total number of Academy members will be 10,817. Out of which 9,375 will be able to vote, because the rest of the members have either retired, or have passed away. The next 96th Oscars Award is going to be held on March 10, 2024.

40% women in Oscar Academy’s invitation list

Of the 398 people the Academy has invited to become members, 40% are women. 52% are from 51 countries and territories outside the United States. Among the invitees are several recent Oscar nomination veterans. These include Austin Butler (Elvis), Paul Meskal (Afterson), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inishrein). Apart from these, veterans like K.K. Qu Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once), cinematographer James Friend (All Quiet on the Western Front) and composers and lyricists MM Keeravani and Chandrabose (RRR).

In the year 2022, 397 people were invited by the Academy.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ invitation list includes casting directors, costume designers, makeup artists and hairstylists, as well as marketing and public relations people. Earlier in 2022, the Oscars invited 397 new members, including singer Billie Eilish, Oscar winner Ariana Debos, Caitriona Balfe, Jamie Dornan and Disney executive Dana Walden.
