The issue of obscenity in programs aired on OTT raised in Rajya Sabha, demand for regulation

In the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised the issue of serving obscenity and glorifying violence in programs and serials aired on OTT (over the top) platforms. He also demanded their regulation. BJP member Sushil Kumar Modi raised this issue in Zero Hour and referring to various OTT platforms, said that there are more than 40 such platforms which need to be controlled.
OTT content is difficult to watch with family
The BJP member said that there is a lot of violence, obscenity and abusive language on most forums. He said that sometimes there is such indecency that it is difficult to sit and watch those programs with the family. He said that now big artists of the country are also participating in such programmes. Sushil Modi said that the market of these platforms is expected to grow rapidly and by 2027 it is likely to reach seven billion dollars. He said that till now there is a system of self-regulation, which is not effective. He demanded that the Government of India should make regulators for such forums, because till now there is no such system from the government.
Demand was made to save the existence of folk dances
BJP’s Iranna Kadadi raised the issue related to the development of Kannada language during Zero Hour itself. He kept his talk in Kannada language only. Manas Ranjan Mangram of Biju Janata Dal demanded to save the existence of folk dances of Odisha. On the other hand, BJP’s Anil Bonde demanded the adoption of necessary technology to protect iron from rusting. BJP’s Kailash Soni raised the issue related to the security of bullion and diamond traders and demanded that adequate security be given to them. He demanded that arms licenses should be given to such businessmen.
During Zero Hour, many members raised various issues of public importance.
Biju Janata Dal’s Sasmit Patra raised the issue of damage caused by frequent cyclones in Odisha and demanded a change in the share of the Center and the state in the schemes implemented in the state. He demanded that the sharing of schemes for states affected by such natural calamities be reduced to 90 to 10 ratio for three years. BJD’s Amar Patnaik pointed out that Odisha was lagging behind in road, rail, banking and digital sectors and said that the Center did not pay enough attention to his state in these areas. During the Zero Hour itself, many members raised various issues of public importance through special mention.
