The Kerala Story stopped from showing in UK at the last minute

The controversy over the controversial, highly publicized and highly successful film The Kerala Story in India has reached Britain as well. It is being told that even after watching all the three versions of the film—Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam—the censor board delayed giving the film an age certification, due to which the film could not be screened. It is being told that The Kerala Story was to be screened there on May 12, tickets for the film were sold in advance, but the screening of the film was stopped at the last moment. Some Indian people there said that they have got a refund mail. It is written in that mail that the British Censor Board did not give the certificate to the film, due to which the release of the film has been postponed. Selling of tickets from all websites has also been banned. There the film was about to be released on 31 screens.

Speaking to The Times of India, a resident of the area, Saloni, said, “Many people had bought tickets to watch the film. The screening was also 95 percent full, but a mail arrived at the last moment. It was written in that mail – British Board of Film Classification could not give age certification to this film. Because of which we have to cancel your booking. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. We are sending your refund. Saloni said that she had bought 3 tickets to watch the movie.

The British Censor Board said – the certification of the film is not done yet
It was said by the Censor Board, the certification of the film The Kerala Story is still in process. The film will be screened in UK cinemas as soon as it gets the age rating certificate.

The film’s distributor in the UK, Suresh Varsani, expressed his dismay and said that he was forced to call all theater owners asking them not to release the film. It is illegal to show a film in the UK without permission from the censor board. No film can be released in England without a certificate from the Censor Board.

Suresh Varsani said, I had submitted everything related to the film to the Censor Board on May 10. I had presented all the three versions (Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam) of the film to the censor board. He watched one version on May 10, while the other two versions were watched the next day. Accordingly, the age certification was to be done on the same day. He didn’t have a straight answer when we questioned him.

Suresh says that he has been in this business for many years but he is facing such a situation for the first time. Why is the Censor Board taking more than three days to give a certificate? Even America, Australia, Canada and Ireland have given green signal to the film. He has suffered a loss of Rs 40 to 50 lakh so far due to this.

According to a Times of India report, some Hindu and Jain organizations in the UK have written to the BBFC, requesting that the film be released by resolving the matter soon.
