The Kerala Story
A huge controversy broke out after the trailer of The Kerala Story was out. The film focuses on religious principles in Kerala and how Hindu and Christian women are allegedly being targeted by radical Islamic clerics. The film claims that these women were converted to Islam and later sent to countries such as Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria “to fight for Islam”.
The Kerala High Court refused to stay the film’s release, saying the trailer did not contain anything objectionable to any particular community. Various youth organizations in the state protested against the release of the film.
Mamta government banned the film
On Monday, the West Bengal government announced its decision to ban The Kerala Story in the state, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saying it was done to “maintain peace” and avoid violence.
Multiplex theaters in Tamil Nadu have stopped screening The Kerala Story from May 7, citing the law and order situation in the state.
