Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s film aims to tell the story of how women from the Indian state of Kerala were tricked and taken to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the Syrian conflict zone.

Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s film aims to tell the story of how women from the Indian state of Kerala were tricked and taken to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the Syrian conflict zone. The film specifically shows some cases of how ‘love jihad’ was used by ISIS to lure 32,000 women to Syria. The trailer shows how Hindu and Christian women of Kerala were brainwashed by men to woo them in the name of love. They were converted to Islam and persuaded to join ISIS and other Islamic war zones. The shocking incidents took place between 2018-19, when an increasing number of Kerala youth came under the influence of ISIS.

The Kerala Story will release in cinemas worldwide on 5 May 2023.

About The Kerala Story Cast & Plot

The Kerala Story stars Adah Sharma in the lead role, playing Fathima Ba, a converted Muslim woman, based on a Hindu nurse who met the same fate. The film also stars Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idani as three other women alongside Fathima. The film is based on a tragedy where around 32,000 women went missing in Kerala. They were allegedly brainwashed and lured by Muslim men, who married and converted them, radicalized them and later deployed them on terror missions in India and abroad for ISIS. The Kerala Story is directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah for Sunshine Pictures Pvt Ltd.
