Saloni, a woman, had bought 3 tickets to watch a movie at Cineworld on Wednesday, but on Friday, May 12, she received a mail which read – The booking of The Kerala Story has been canceled by BBFC due to lack of age certification. We are sending a full refund for the same. Apologies for the inconvenience. The woman told TOI that many people had planned to watch the movie this weekend and 95% of the screenings were full. But the shows got cancelled.
BBFC does not have a valid reason
BBFC said, ‘The Kerala Story is still in the certification process. As soon as it gets an edge rating certificate and content advice, it will start showing in UK cinemas. On the other hand, UK Distributor of Movies Suresh Varsani, who is the director of 24 Seven FLIX4U, told that this is a matter of great concern. He gave the film to BBFC on Wednesday and gave three versions of it – Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam. He had seen one on Wednesday and the other two on Thursday. In such a situation, the age classification was to be done on the same day. Which didn’t happen. And when the answer was sought from him, he did not even have any valid reason for it.
UK’s Hindu organization demands investigation
He said that he could not understand why it was taking more than three days to give him a certificate. While USA, India, Australia, Canada and Ireland have passed it. But what is the problem here, it is beyond understanding. He told that UK cinema and he has suffered a loss of 40 to 50 lakhs. According to the news, the Hindu Community Organization of UK which represents 45000 Hindus and Jains has given in writing to BBFC and requested them to investigate the matter soon.
