Los Angeles | Oscar-nominated actor James Martin says he is getting back to work after starring in “An Irish Goodbye”. The Down syndrome star worked at a Starbucks in Belfast before working in the short film, reports mirror.co.uk. The 30-year-old said he helps all the customers and has been doing so for a long time. This is good.
James played the younger of two brothers who come together after the death of their mother. The film has been nominated in the Best Short Film category at the Oscars.
He also worked as a chef at the Italian restaurant Scalini. He said, I can make garlic bread, meatballs, salad and mussels, chips and other things like that.
The actor discussed acting with Down syndrome and said that anyone can act and it doesn’t matter if you have Down syndrome. Take Stephen Hawking (who had motor neurone disease) in The Simpsons, he explained. He was a brilliant actor, he knew what he was doing, but you have to treat him like an adult. I always tell people to never judge a book by its cover.
James is also known for his role in the show ‘Ups and Downs’. He is currently in a relationship with Louise Davis. Who will attend the Academy Awards in March. James is looking forward to meeting Robert De Niro and hanging out with fellow Irishman Colin Farrell at the ceremony.
‘An Irish Goodbye’ stars Michelle Fairley as Grainne, Paddy Jenkins as Father O’Shea, Seamus O’Hara as Turlough and James Lorcan. When two brothers reunite after their mother’s death, they discover her unfinished bucket list. The short film is directed and written by Tom Berkeley and Ross White.
James’ on-screen brother Seamus was shocked to learn of the Oscar nomination. He added- Since we have come to know that the film has finally made the shortlist, it is definitely in a different gear now. It’s wild!
