Netizens criticize Karan Johar for allegedly ‘insulting’ Rabindranath Tagore in the trailer of ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’.
The trailer of ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ is out now and it has everything fans were expecting. Like Karan Johar’s superhit film, this one too is romance, frolic and family drama. The grandeur of the trailer has raised the excitement among the people. But a certain section of social media, especially Bengalis, are not happy with Ranveer Singh’s character Rocky’s funny one-liners.
In the trailer, when Rocky arrives at Rani’s (Alia Bhatt) home for his three-month stay, he comes across a portrait of Rabindranath Tagore, whom he surprisingly recognizes as Rani’s grandfather. Although this misunderstanding is used to laugh at the story, it also adds a touch of absurdity to the story in a way. Also, the jokes on Rabindranath Tagore struck a chord with Bengalis as we all know the sentiments associated with the iconic litterateur. Many on social media criticized Karan Johar for ‘insulting’ Rabindranath Tagore.
One user wrote, “This trailer was full of such Bengali stereotypical absurd jokes.. Karan Johar still stuck in his mid 2000s version.. This movie will definitely flop.” Another angry user also mocked the makers, “Maybe they thought that just showing grand sets, glittering clothes, big dance numbers would be enough for the audience. Who cares about the script!”
Another user blamed Bollywood’s trend saying, “So Bollywood will never learn anything from its past. How can you make fun of Rabindranath Tagore! To disrespect a person of his stature is highly unacceptable.” The trailer is full of funny dialogues and dramatic scenes to raise the entertainment level, but these one-liners have taken social media by storm. Meanwhile, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ is all set to hit the theaters on July 28.
