Karishma Tanna told Siddharth Kannan, ‘I felt that Sanju would help me move forward in life, despite the small role. But in reality nothing happened. After the film, the kind of response, films or projects I was expecting didn’t come. For seven to eight months or 1 year, I was not working. He further said, ‘I had high hopes from the industry that I would get work now (after Sanju). I don’t know, and sometimes you go into a dark hole,[and think]what does life need? What else should I do to show acting?

The 39-year-old actress further said, ‘She had gone into a very depressed phase. I thought my life was colourless. I didn’t know what to do with my career. I was messaging people, ‘Have you seen Sanju?’ ‘Did you like my acting?’ Only my mother was with me. My mother is very sensitive. My friends would not understand, because none of them are from the industry. I motivated myself. She said, ‘Only I know how I pulled myself out of that phase.’
