Today is the day of friends ‘Friendship Day’. Friendship is such a pleasant relationship, which you choose by yourself, while all the others you get in ready-made relationships. This relation of friendship is not limited to humans only. Just like we humans have friends, similarly every country also has some friendly nations. They establish their friendship by standing together even in difficult situations. The special thing is that our country believes in the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, that is, for us the whole world is one family. Despite this, there are some countries which are called true friends of India.
Russia has been the most reliable friend till now
Whatever may have been the circumstances, Russia has supported India since the days of the Soviet Union. The special thing is that this friendship is not limited to transactions only. Whether it is India’s nuclear program or space program, Russia has helped India in every possible way. In the year 1962, when America, France, Britain and China used veto against India in the Security Council on the issue of Kashmir, then only Russia used veto in favor of India. Even during the 1971 war between India and Pakistan, America was eager to help Pakistan. At that time, Russia came with India and gave a befitting reply to America and Britain.
Seeing the US Navy moving towards the Bay of Bengal, Russia had sent submarines and destroyers equipped with its nuclear capability from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean to help India. Russia had also given modern weapons to India before the Indo-Pak war in 1971, which included the most advanced fighter jet MiG-21 at that time. India and Russia signed a 20-year cooperation treaty on August 9, 1971. These included issues such as respect for sovereignty and taking care of each other’s interests, being good neighbors and maintaining a peaceful environment. In the year 1993, on these basic principles, Russia and India made a new treaty of peace, friendship and cooperation. This is the reason why even today we keep Russia at the top of our list of trusted friendly countries.
The relation between Bhutan and India is very special.
The relationship between Bhutan and India is a combination of geography, history and culture. This age-old friendship is still the same. Bhutan has stood by its country in every difficult situation. At the same time, India also never considered Bhutan a stranger. You can understand the importance of this friendship between India and Bhutan from the fact that India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had said in a conference in Thimphu that if any country attacks Bhutan, it will attack India. It will be accepted and India will give a befitting reply. Not only this, it has been a custom in India that almost all the Prime Ministers of India visit Bhutan at least once during their tenure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started his foreign tour in 2014 from Bhutan itself. Apart from this, he has also visited Bhutan in the second term in 2019. In 2017, showing its unwavering friendship, India stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Bhutan against China in the Doklam dispute, due to which China had to retreat from Doklam. Being a friendly nation, India gifted testing kits and medicines to Bhutan during the Corona period.
Cultural relations have strengthened friendship with Japan
There is a long history of friendship between India and Japan. A clear influence of Buddhism born in India can be seen on the culture of Japan. Even during India’s freedom struggle, the Japanese army provided assistance to the Azad Hind Fauj of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Even after independence, there has been a cordial relationship between the two countries. Many Japanese companies like Sony, Toyota, Honda, Suzuki etc. have contributed to the economic development of our country by setting up their plants in India. Apart from this, Japan has also provided technology to India for projects like Metro Rail. India has also helped Japan from time to time.
Israel-India have fought together on many fronts
Israel has been an old friend of our country. Israel has helped India on many important occasions. India had recognized Israel as a country in 1950 itself. In the year 1999, when Pakistan treacherously started fighting in Kargil, Israel had provided intelligence to us. Our country is also a big buyer of Israeli military equipment and weapons. Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad and India’s RAW together have successfully executed many difficult missions. Geographically Israel is a small country, but in terms of technology it is one of the leading countries. India is getting help from Israel in the field of modern farming techniques, cyber security etc.
