Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar: After a gap of three years, actress Shraddha Kapoor is going to be seen on screen through the film Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar. What is the most special memory of Holi?
I have many memories regarding Holi. The building in which I have been living since childhood. I still live there. Because I live with my parents. There are memories of Holi on every corner of the building and house. Childhood Holi was very special. Lalit Modi’s house used to be in front of our building. Holi party was held at his house. We children used to color all the guests by aiming at the balloons from here.
Holi also means food, which Holi dish do you like the most?
I am from Maharashtra, so my favorite Holi dish is Puran Poli.
Talking about the film, your character is a liar, how comfortable are you with lying in your personal life?
To be honest, I cannot lie at all in my personal life. My family knows when I am lying just by looking at my face. My character is completely opposite from the film.
Have you been brought up in your personal life by some rascal in love?
I have handled cunning people well. Everyone goes through heartbreak in life. With the help of friends and family, they move forward again. I have always had the support of family and friends, but there is no shoulder better than your own. You have to make yourself strong enough to handle all this.
How was your experience with Ranbir Kapoor?
Ranbir Kapoor is amazing. I always wanted to work with him. When his first film came Saawariya. At that time itself I was very impressed with his work. Then thought let’s see what else they do. He did magic in the next film as well and after that he has tried to separate in each of his films. He is very natural on the set. He was very cool on the first day on the set. Was talking to everyone. When it came to give the shot, he said that he did not remember the dialogue at all, but as soon as the camera started rolling. He immediately started speaking dialogues. I understood that he is doing this to pull me. He comes from home with full preparation.
Did Ranbir make you say yes to this film?
I always choose films by looking at the script. Not seeing who is the actor opposite me. I have not eaten films with many big actors. My character matters the most to me. Tu Jhoothi Mein Makkar is primarily a boy and girl story. I have a very important character in this film.
So don’t have a wishlist of actors?
No, I do not have a wish list of actors. I appreciate the good work of the actors. Love watching him, but I don’t see that I have to work with this star. My priority remains the script and my character.
Have you ever had a crush on any actor?
Yes it is. When I was in school, I was obsessed with Hrithik Roshan. I used to have posters of him in my room during Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. I had decided that I would marry him only. When I came to the movies, I shared all that with her and also sent all the videos that I had saved. He is a brilliant actor. He said that we should work together someday. Unfortunately, we were never offered any film together. We hope to get a film offer together soon.
Your film is releasing after three years, in the last three years when you didn’t have work, did you feel insecure?
Baaghi 3 was in theatres, at the same time Kovid struck. I had not taken this gap by thinking. By the way, gap is not new in my career. I think there was a gap of one year after my first film and again after the second film. It was only after Aashiqui 2 that I realized that I have to be true to myself and do the kind of work that I want to do. I was in no hurry. I had to do two to three films a year in the first year of my career, but after Aashiqui, I started choosing those stories and characters which have freshness. I have become more positive after the pandemic. This is the reason why I never felt insecure, rather my confidence grew. I realized that now I have to work harder and do work of my choice.
Any regrets of not being able to fulfill your contract with Yash Raj Films?
People often advise to work with a particular director or a particular banner but my journey has been unconventional since my first film. I think this is my strength. People often say that I didn’t start well, but I am happy with my first film and I think it is a plus point for me. Everything I feel is very real and all the love and appreciation I get is real. I don’t have any regrets about anything. I have always followed my heart and think simply. I don’t have any strategy. If I make a strategy, I will not be able to succeed in it. I want to do good work. Banner doesn’t matter to me.
You have a good fan following on social media, how much does it mean to you?
It makes me feel very special, because it is recognition for my work and the decisions I have made. Well whether my films have done well or not, I have always received a lot of love and it is very motivating for me. I am not much on WhatsApp, but I am active on Instagram because through that I try to reply to the fans club. I am in touch with my fans. I take out time to connect with my fans because they are my strength and they make me feel like I am making the right decisions.
You recently put a video with your father and people appreciated it?
My father gets a lot of love. His fans love him a lot. I took 20 retakes to make that video. He was very patient with me and did it consistently with me without complaining. He is also an amazing dancer. His dedication is unbelievable. He is a huge inspiration for me.
your upcoming movies?
My next release will be Stree 2. Apart from this, I have also been approached for Naagin and Tezaab.
