Udaipur is the historical city of Rajasthan as well as the city is also the capital of the proud state of Mewar. Establishment: Maharana Uday Singh established the city of Udaipur in 1559 AD. The city was established with a plan to shift the capital to a safer place from frequent Mughal attacks.

Court of the Maharana of Udaipur: Udaipur, known as the City of Sunrise, was made the capital of the princely state of Udaipur by Maharana Udai Singh in 1568 after the Chittorgarh conquest. The city of Udaipur, surrounded by ramparts, is situated on a mountain range, on the top of which is Maharanaji’s palace, which began to be built in 1570 AD. To the west of Udaipur is Lake Pichola, on which are two small islands and a marble palace, in one of which the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan took refuge after rebelling against his father Jahangir before ascending the throne.

After the death of Maharana Uday Singh in 1572 AD, his son Pratap was coronated. In those days, he was the only ruler who did not accept the subordination of the Mughals. History is famous for the fierce battle of Haldighati between Maharana Pratap and Mughal Emperor Akbar to protect the motherland. This war did not take place in the spirit of expansion of any religion, caste or empire, but only to protect the self-respect and pride of the motherland.

Mewar: Mewar was a princely state in the south central part of Rajasthan. Mewar was also known as Udaipur state. In this were Udaipur, Bhilwara, Rajsamand, and Chittorgarh districts of modern India. Rajputs ruled here for hundreds of years and it was ruled by Gehlaut and Sisodia kings for 1200 years. In 1303 AD, Alauddin Khilji defeated Ratnisingh, the ruler of the Gehlaut dynasty of Mewar and annexed Mewar to the Delhi Sultanate.

Special Features: Chemicals, asbestos and clay are produced in the factories of Udaipur. Textiles, embroidered items, ivory and lac handicrafts are also manufactured in Udaipur.
