Utility News: Follow these steps for Aadhaar-PAN linking

The government has made PAN-Aadhaar linking mandatory for availing certain services including filing income tax returns. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had said that PAN, if not linked with Aadhaar, would become “inoperative” after March 31, 2023.

The deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar card is March 31, 2023. However, card holders will have to pay Rs 1000 for the linking process. If any card holders do not link their PAN with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, their PAN number will become inactive, as advised by the IT department.

How to check Aadhaar-PAN linking status

a) Visit incometax.gov.in to file your income tax electronically.
b) Look for ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ option.
c) Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number, then select ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.
d) A message will appear on your screen if your PAN is linked with your Aadhaar.
Your PAN will be linked to 10 digit PAN> Aadhaar number> 12 digit Aadhaar card number>.
You can follow these steps to link your PAN with your Aadhaar:

1. Visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of India (
2. Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ option available under ‘Quick Links’ section on the homepage.
3. A new page will open where you will have to enter your PAN, Aadhaar number and name as registered on your Aadhaar card.
4. Enter the captcha code displayed on the page and click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.
