Women have always been in favor of heritage and continue to play an important role in the protection of nature. Bihar’s Vandana Srivastava is working hard to give Bhojpuri a different identity on the basis of her artistic talent. Vandana’s birth place may have been Rajasthan, but after marriage she settled in Nalanda and started making ‘Bhojpuri painting’. He believes that the way people give respect to Madhubani painting and consider it as their heritage, similarly Bhojpuri painting should also be respected because it is also an identity of Bihar. Vandana says that through Bhojpuri painting, the new generation will also return to their culture.

Has participated in many exhibitions

Vandana also works to make her paintings accessible to people through social media. In the years 2010 and 2013, he also participated in the national exhibition organized by the Maithili-Bhojpuri Academy in Delhi, where he presented the Bhojpuri painting book ‘Rangpurvi’, which was highly appreciated. Due to this work, she has also been a member of Delhi Sahitya Kala Parishad. The painting made by Vandana has also appeared on the cover page of Delhi-based Sahitya Academy’s book ‘Akshar Parv’ and Bhojpuri Sahitya Sarita magazine. Vandana tells that her wish is to bring all her paintings in the form of a book, so that Bhojpuri painting can reach every corner of the house. Her husband Parichay Das helps her in this work at every step, who is a professor of Hindi subject at Nava Nalanda Mahavihar.

Vandana says that “It is definitely wise to move with the times, but it is not right to leave your roots.” It is our responsibility to preserve the achievement that Bhikhari Thakur has given to Bhojpuri language. For this purpose, I am trying to take Bhojpuri painting to every household.

what is bhojpuri painting

Vandana says that Bhojpuri painting is the folk-art of Bihar, but due to non-inclusion of Bhojpuri painting in common life, people know very little about it. She tells that for her Bhojpuri painting is a means of expression. Along with this, making Bhojpuri painting at Arrah railway station is a positive step, which will benefit many people and artists will get opportunities. According to Vandana, in Bhojpuri painting, paintings are mainly made by engraving various geometrical shapes of mathematics. Through these shapes, different culture and deities of Bihar are depicted. By the way, on the occasion of Teej-festivals, people have been making this painting in the form of Alpana at the main door of the house.
