One of my fondest memories of the monsoon season was when I went on a holiday with my friends to a serene hill station. We decided to enjoy the rain and went for a walk in the lush green mountains. I love rain. There is a childhood memory related to rain, which I would definitely like to share. I was about 8 years old. This is when my aunt from Delhi came to visit us along with my uncle and two cousins, who were 6 and 8 years old. We had gone sightseeing in Kanheri Caves and while returning, our car broke down. 15 days of June had passed. The rain had not started yet. But rain was written in our destiny. As we waited for help, it started raining heavily. The rain continued continuously for about one and a half hours. Instead of being trapped in the car, my cousins ​​and I decided to come out and get drenched in the rain. We sang, danced and had a great time while our parents sat sulking inside the van. This beautiful memory is still clearly enshrined in our mind. But whenever any incident of rain is remembered, our parents remember it as an agonizing time spent in the van.

Happily, I was born in July, so to celebrate, we decided to go to the Jim Corbett forest. However, it was raining heavily and as a result, we could not see any tigers, which left me disappointed. One of my worst monsoon memories has always been when Mumbai was flooded. I believe it must have been around 2006 or 2007. Even today when I remember him, I shudder. My elder son was very young at that time and went to school. However, the school bus never returned and we had no idea where it was stuck. My son had not returned home and both landline and mobile phones were not working due to heavy rain. We panicked, we came to know that the bus was stuck not far from our house, but it was partially submerged in water. Luckily people managed to save the children one by one and thankfully my son was safe. Although it was a painful experience for him. That memory will always stay with me as one of the worst memories of rain. One good thing is that I have a fond memory of the drive up to Khandala where we saw many waterfalls on the way and the clouds surrounded us. I have often been to a dhaba called Sunny, where lunch amidst the clouds is a different pleasure. It was a beautiful experience and I have enjoyed it many times. The roads in Mumbai are extremely bad, so it is difficult to enjoy the rains unless you go outside the city.

I used to eagerly wait for those rainy days, because this season means the season of making pakodas and different things from my mother. Now looking back, a smile comes on my face. I would like to share a funny incident from that time. I was preparing for CAT exam. I clearly remember that I failed in the revision paper of maths and I hated maths. Throughout the journey from the institute to my home on my Activa scooter, I could not stop crying. It reminds me of a quote from Charlie Chaplin, ‘The best time to cry is when it is raining so that no one can see you’ and it proved true in my case. It was raining and I was crying. After that I did not perform well in the exam and could not get admission in a reputed institute, still I got admission in good place after getting good marks in maths. Was very confused during that time. Even today I have not forgotten that rain.

I love the monsoon season and I believe everyone is emotionally attached to this season, especially during Mumbai’s monsoon which lasts for three months. I am from MP and it doesn’t rain like Mumbai, so whenever I get a chance to enjoy Mumbai rains, I don’t miss it. The fun of sipping tea in the rain is something else. I am always looking for excuses to get wet in the rain. To recall a different rain experience, I went on a pilgrimage to Amarnath and I successfully completed the yatra. But on the way back we faced a challenging situation due to landslides. I had my family with me and we were stuck. We spent 10 days in Srinagar, constantly checking whether the roads were clear or not. While I personally spent a lot of quality time with my family in those 10 days. Those times were difficult for the family, as they used to think, when will we be able to come back home. Such incidents can happen in Uttarakhand and I consider myself lucky that such an incident has not happened again. These experiences remind me of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of cherishing family moments despite the challenges.
