Varisu becomes Thalapathy Vijay’s biggest film, crosses 300 crores globally

Actor Thalapathy Vijay’s Warisu, which released on the occasion of Pongal and Makar Sankranti, has become the first film in his career to cross the Rs 300 crore mark at the box office. With this film, the actor has surpassed his own previous blockbuster film Bigil which grossed 299 crores globally.

Last weekend was another good weekend for Warisu wherein it managed to collect 3.25 crores. With this weekend’s collection, Warisu has managed to take itself above 214 crores at the all India level. It is the highest grossing film for Vijay in India. Warisu has succeeded in surpassing Vijay’s previous blockbuster film Master at the domestic box office which had managed to collect 210 crores at the box office. Warisu has earned $10.80 million (Rs 88 crore) overseas. This is actor Vijay’s first film to hit a triple century globally.

Varisu alone grossed around 143.75 crores in Tamil Nadu, before which both his Master and Bigil had earned 140 crores each in Tamil Nadu. It is being said that Warisu will be able to beat Baahubali 2 within this week, which had managed to earn 147 crores at the box office in Tamil Nadu. If this becomes possible, Varisu Ponniyan will become the 3rd highest grosser of Tamil cinema after Selvan-1 and Vikram.

Week 1 – Rs 156 cr (9 days)
2nd week – Rs. 39.75 crores
3rd week – Rs. 15 crores
Fourth Friday – Rs. 0.75 crore
Fourth Saturday – Rs. 1.10 crores
Fourth Sunday – Rs. 1.40 crores
Total – Rs. 214 crores

Facing only a mixed reception and massive struggle to achieve such numbers speaks volumes for Vijay’s box office dominance. The star has been delivering blockbuster numbers with every release since 2017, but Vijay is yet to deliver a film like Vikram and Ponniyan Selvan-1. Although these days Vijay is in a lot of discussions about his next film Leo. The Tamil Nadu box office is hopeful that this film will prove to be the biggest film of his career.
