Vivek Gomber is in the headlines for the web series Lootere.

Lootere web series: The web series Lootere is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar these days. Vivek Gomber is seen in the important role of Vikrant Gandhi in the series. Vivek says that I am grateful that I got this opportunity. Apart from this, it is a big thing to work with a successful duo like Hansal sir and Jai sir. Many times the script is good, but it is not translated on screen in that way because it requires a good team and Hansal Sir and Jai Mehta have that good team. Jai Mehta has debuted with this series, but he has been working with his father Hansal Mehta for more than one and a half decade.

How did you get involved with the Looter series?
I joined this show only through audition. My casting lasted for five months. I gave my first audition in January, then we gave four more auditions. Finally in July, I had a look test and I was signed. When I came for the look test, I was able to properly know about the series.

What has this series given you an opportunity to do differently?
When you’re young you want to play with guns. Want to do action by jumping here and there. I don’t say that this is what I had to do, but yes, playing the role of Vikrant Gandhi in this series has given me an opportunity to explore a lot of different things. This is what you want as an actor, so this series has given me this opportunity. Hopefully this experience will be useful in my future films also. Well, to be honest, initially I was very nervous as to how the audience would accept me because I am playing the role of a hero in this show. I wondered how the audience would see me in that form.

Before this, you have also played the title role in the film Sir, which was highly appreciated?
Yes, my role in the film Sir was appreciated a lot, but in Lootere I have a completely different kind of character. Here I have got a lot of freedom to explore myself. I have tried to do as much as the makers have thought about my role.

Where do you want to see yourself in the next five years?
I would like to say that I am not new, I have been in this industry for 20 years. I come from a good family, so there was never any problem of food and accommodation in Mumbai, yes, there was a lot of problem in getting good work because I do not promote myself. I also stay away from social media. When I am alone, I think about all my previous films and how many have flopped. In which case, my work was very good but I did not get the job. I am greedy for work and want to do a lot of work. I hope this show does well and we all get more work so I don’t plan much. I believe in progressing one step at a time.

Do you feel that your potential as an actor has not been fully utilised?
Maybe I wasn’t that good at my job when I was learning. It is unfair to complain that people did not give me work. You can go to workshops or theater to learn acting, but it’s a different world when you are in front of the camera, be it television, OTT or films. It’s a different craft altogether. When you stand in front of the camera, when you work with different people, you get confidence, you get emotions and oneness. I am also associated as a producer with two-three films including Court. When I became a producer, it also helped me become a better actor. After becoming a producer and doing more work, I have become a better person and a better actor. I am grateful that I am getting work and it is a matter of good fortune, because many talented people do not even get this opportunity. I am thankful for..

What is the biggest lesson you have learned after struggling in the industry for so many years?
Vigilance has increased. You cannot do any work in enthusiasm because sometimes things get stuck. This has happened to me a lot, many of my films kept getting made. Now if Lootere does well, people will see me and give me work. For the last three years I have been telling people that I am doing Lootere, but the show had not come so people did not know about it. You don’t get anything unless they see your work, so everything is tied together. There is a lot of competition here and you get roles considering your age, so a lot of things go together.

Do you approach producers and directors for work?
As an actor, I approach casting directors for work because sometimes you don’t know what a producer is creating, so how can you say that you are perfect for that role. I don’t even contact the directors because they are busy most of the time. They have a lot of responsibilities. I have become friends with Lootere series director Jai Mehta, so maybe I can ask him for work, but I will still hesitate in asking for work from Hansal sir. He is quite senior and the question that keeps coming to my mind is whether I will be able to fit into the roles that he is thinking of.

What are your upcoming films?
I have two films. One has been completed. After that, we have to shoot Shoojit Sircar Productions’ film, which stars Babil. I have a commercial film which will release at the end of the year.
