‘Wanindu Hasaranga’ returns after retirement in Bangladesh Test series – Dainik Savera Times

Colombo: All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who retired from Test cricket last year, has been recalled by Sri Lanka for the two-Test series with Bangladesh. Wanindu Hasaranga has been named in Sri Lanka’s 17-man squad for the two-Test series against Bangladesh starting on Friday.
Along with this, fast bowler Lahiru Kumara has also returned to the team and uncapped offspinner Nishan Peiris has got a place in the team. It is noteworthy that Hasaranga had announced his retirement from Test in August 2023 to focus on white-ball cricket. So far, he has four wickets in four Test matches at an average of 100.75.
He last played a Test against Bangladesh at home in April 2021. The two-Test series will end on April 3. Due to this, Hasaranga will not be available for the first three matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Sri Lankan fast bowler Lahiru has not played any Test for a year. Whereas Peiris has taken 24 wickets in his last four first-class matches. Overall, he has taken 153 wickets in 37 matches at an average of 24.79.
The first Test will start from Friday in Sylhet. The Sri Lankan team for the first Test against Bangladesh includes Dhananjay de Silva (captain), Kusal Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne, Nishan Madushka, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Sadira Samarawickrama (wicketkeeper), Kamindu Mendis, Lahiru Udara, Wanindu Hasaranga, The names of Prabhat Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, Nishan Peiris, Kasun Rajitha, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara and Chamika Gunasekara are included.
