Mumbai Actress Yami Gautam Dhar believes that cinema hall is the place where the mind should be completely free from any burden or ideology.

The actress, who is waiting for the release of the upcoming film ‘Article 370’, said, ‘It is important for the artists and the audience to watch the films with a clear eye and not be influenced by any old notion.’

The last few months have seen different reactions from the audience to films like ‘Animal’ and ‘Dunky’. This is also the case with the upcoming film ‘Article 370’. The story of the film touches on a subject that has divided the country in terms of opinion.

Yami spoke to IANS ahead of the release of her film and talked about her journey in cinema and the role of social media in modern discourse.

Talking about the audience’s reaction, Yami revealed that she has not seen Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Animal’ yet.

He said, “If you are working in a film or watching a film with preconceived notions, you will never be able to enjoy the film. If your decision is already unclear then you will not be able to give an unbiased opinion on it.

Yami further said, what you like, what you don’t like, it is your personal opinion. You should also stick to it. But watching a movie with a pre-determined mindset is not the right way to go.

Yami told IANS, as far as polarization is concerned, today people have different opinions on everything. In such a situation, social media has added fuel to the fire, because it is the easiest way to reach a large number of people.

She said, ‘My job as an artiste is to pursue excellence, to bring forth compelling stories to play good roles and to be a part of good cinema, that is the intention with which I work.’

The actress also talked about her upcoming film and said that the film tells the story behind the abrogation of the controversial ‘Article 370’ of the Constitution of India1.

Yami said, ‘Article 370’ is not just about an army operation, the film tells how the historic event of removal of ‘Article 370’ was carried out.

The actress, who started her journey in films with the Kannada film ‘Ullasa Uthasha’, has completed almost one and a half decade in cinema.

Yami said, ‘I don’t really look back at my cinematic journey. I don’t even think I’ve been working for that long. I joined the industry at a young age, I am very happy where I am today. I give credit for my successful films to those films which did not get love from the audience.

Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar, ‘Article 370’ will release in theaters worldwide on February 23.
