Story of ‘Kafus’

The story of ‘Kafas’ revolves around Sunny Vashisht. Sunny is young, she gets a chance to act in a Hindi film. But in the film one of his fellow actors molested him. This web series draws our attention to the aftermath of this traumatic event. We are shown how power and privilege override truth and justice. ‘Kaphas’ means ‘entangled.’ It is the story of Mumbai’s middle class Vashishtha family consisting of Raghav (Sharman Joshi), Seema (Mona Singh), and their children Shreya (Tejaswi Singh Ahlawat) and Sunny (Mikael Gandhi). This family is living a happy life. Sunny is very talented and because of this she gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to make her acting debut in a big budget Hindi film opposite famous actor Vikram Bajaj (Vivaan Bhathena). Sunny sets out in search of stardom, but he has no idea what lies ahead. Next comes a turning point in his life, which changes everything. Siri’s story further shows the struggle between Sunny, a victim of molestation, and her family.

‘Kafus’ web series review

Directed by Sahil Sangha, this web series consists of six episodes, which delve into the complexities of human nature and the long-term consequences of the smallest of actions. The story is not new but the way it is presented along with excellent acting makes it worth watching. Episodes are short. But the never-ending silence between Seema and Raghav and their insistence on maintaining a strained relationship with ex-wife Meghna (Mona Vasu) gets tiring for the viewers. At times it seems that at a certain juncture, it could have been scrapped. However, in spite of all this, the series does not let the attention of the audience deviate from its main story.

The biggest strength of ‘Kafus’ is the performance of the actors. Each actor has done justice to his character with precision and restraint. Mona Singh gets into the skin of the character with ease, while Sharman Joshi plays a helpless father. Sharman has also done the job of living his character well. Among the child actors, Mikael Gandhi has made a mark as Sunny. He portrays the mental trauma of his character at such a young age on screen in the best possible way. Apart from this, Tejashwi Singh Ahlawat has done a great job in the role of an elder sister and a girl who wants to become an actress. Tejashwi’s character goes on to assume that her parents do not love her equally. There is a sour-sweet relationship between Gandhi and Ahlawat. However, sometimes seeing the interaction of both the children with their parents, it definitely seems that it has been exaggerated. Vivaan Bhathena plays the role of a pedophile. As a popular actor, he acts like a character in such a way that you are forced to hate him. Preeti Jhangiani plays the role of Vivaan’s trophy wife in the series. But his role is not very important.

The setting of the middle class family in this series is such that it becomes a character in itself. However, something could be created in the plot, which is difficult to imagine. But despite this, ‘Kafus’ is such a story of child abuse, which does not let you take your eyes off the screen.

Why see- ‘Kafus’ may not top the list of series on OTT, but the way a simple story has been created on the basis of excellent performance, it is worth watching.
