Rana Naidu i.e. Rana Daggubati is a fixer. Fixer means his job is to remove the problems in the lives of big and influential people. Especially the life of celebs. Rana is expert in this work. Sam-Dam-Dand-Bhed, he adopts every trick in this work. Rana has a wife, two children. Rana’s life is a bit complicated, but moving forward at its own pace. But meanwhile Rana’s father Naga Naidu (Venkatesh) gets released from jail. Now busy in fixing the lives of others, Rana is struggling with the chaos in his own life. He has a past with his father, whose shadow he does not want to remain in his present life.

Review of ‘Rana Naidu’ web series

This series by Karan Anshuman and Suparn Verma is a remake of the American TV show ‘Ray Donovan’. The crime-thriller-action genre has a great hold on OTT these days. In such a situation, this series also gives the experience of thrill from the first episode itself. But by reaching the climax in the 10th episode, the shortcomings of the screenplay make you cringe.

The lead character of the story Rana Naidu is expert in his work. There is no problem that he cannot solve. Whether it’s a star cricketer’s sperm being stolen or a big businessman’s girlfriend having an affair with another man, Rana has a solution. He has his own team, in which Lara (Lauren Robinson) and Srini (Aditya Menon) are well versed in their skills. One of Rana’s brothers is Tej (Sushant Singh) Parkinson, who is a stunt coordinator in films, while the other brother Jaffa (Abhishek Banerjee) is living with a painful past. Rana’s wife Naina (Surveen Chawla) used to be a top heroine, but is now managing the kids and the house.

Rana and his family came to Mumbai from Hyderabad 15 years ago. Rana’s father Naga Naidu (Venkatesh) also has a past. As the story progresses, episode by episode, things related to the past are revealed. Rana is annoyed with his father. He also feels threatened by his father, so much so that he even plans to kill him. But standing like a rock on every front, Rana keeps on avoiding to face his outspoken, deceitful and liar father. One is minister OB Mahajan (Rajesh Sais) and the other is action movie star Prince Reddy (Gaurav Chopra), both of whom are Rana’s most prominent clients.

Rana Daggubati impresses as Rana Naidu. To non-Hyderabadis, the Naga accent, a line or two spoken in Telugu, may sound a bit dramatic, but in fact, it establishes the characters from Hyderabad to Mumbai very well. The series is full of sex, drugs, abuses, obscene dialogues, guns and shootouts. But beyond all this there is a lot more to tell in the story of the series. The series is a bit cumbersome at times. But it proves effective in showing the dynamics of different characters. Rana is the character of a man who hates his own father. Even after seeing his father, you start to understand that for Naga perhaps sons and family come later. However, after 15 years in prison, he talks about reforming.

Throughout the series, we see Rana Naidu solving problems for different clients. But not every client call is fun. If the story of these clients on the writing table was made a bit more interesting then it would have added more thrill to the series.

The entire focus of the series is on the characters of Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh. Of all the side characters in the series, Jaffa’s story is the most impactful. Abhishek Banerjee portrays the character of an alcoholic boy living with a painful past. Rana Daggubati seems to be in one tone from the first scene to the last, while Venkatesh’s character packs a surprising punch. You never know what Naga will do next. One wish remains unfulfilled in the series. As a viewer, you want to see the backstory of Lara and Srini as well, but the makers have not taken care of it. Gaurav Chopra has breathed life into the role of Superstar Prince.

Why see- If you have seen ‘Ray Donovan’, then this series may not satisfy you completely, but you will definitely like it. If you haven’t seen the American series, then it will surely keep you hooked till the 10th episode.
