According to Cricbuzz, Rajasthan Royals star opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has created several records this year in IPL 2023, is all set to earn his maiden Test call in India. However, the BCCI is yet to announce the squad for the upcoming matches. The 21-year-old Yashasvi went to England for the WTC 2023 final, but he was not in the original 15-man squad. He was one of the three standby players.
The Mumbai cricketer is set to replace Cheteshwar Pujara in the Test squad for the West Indies tour and will bat at No.3. He also plays at this number in domestic. Saurashtra’s Pujara has failed to perform this year, due to which his place is now being questioned. If reports are to be believed, he is set to be dropped. Captain Rohit Sharma is likely to continue as captain for the Test series.
A source said – Every Test is important and its result will have a bearing on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. We cannot experiment in Test matches. Apart from Pujara, the other four (Rohit, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane) of the top five batsmen are certain to retain their places in the squad for the two Tests in Dominica and Trinidad. But star pacer Mohammed Shami, who led the Indian pace attack in the WTC 2023 final, is likely to be rested for the two Tests in the West Indies.
