New Delhi: India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant felt that ‘his time in this world’ was over during a horrific car accident in December 2022. Speaking openly for the first time on the fatal accident near his hometown Roorkee, Pant said he thought he would almost die after his Mercedes car caught fire after hitting a divider on the morning of December 30, 2022. Pant suffered a torn ligament in his right knee and two injuries on his forehead in the accident. This 26-year-old wicketkeeper batsman has been away from cricket since then.
Pant told Star Sports, “For the first time in my life I felt that my time in this world was over. I was aware of the injuries during the accident but I was lucky because it could have been worse.” He said, ”I felt like someone had saved me. I asked the doctor how long it would take for me to recover. He said it would take 16 to 18 months. I knew I had to work hard to shorten this recovery time.” The accident forced Pant to undergo surgery in Mumbai and is expected to make a comeback in the IPL.
Pant is expected to lead Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL after being part of the franchise delegation during the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai last year.
