Mumbai: Hrithik Roshan tried to live up to the expectations of the audience in his debut film ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ but in ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ he tried to prove himself as an actor. 20 years after the release of ‘Koi Mil Gaya’, which focuses on a friendly alien ‘alien’, Hrithik talks about how the film turned his career around when he was going through a rough patch.
“When my dad shared the idea of ’Koi Mil Gaya’, it immediately got me excited,” Hrithik told PTI. It had all the elements that inspired me as an actor. When I read the script, I felt a sense of purpose because it was the script that was the star, not me. I decided that this is a better opportunity for me to prove myself as an artist, which I will not miss.
He pointed out that the film, aimed at children and adults alike, gave hope to Indian storytellers to tell a genre of ‘science fiction’ that was commercially viable in India. Directed by veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, Koi Mil Gaya released on August 8, 2003, three years after his son’s debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.
Hrithik said the script of ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ won me over and I had taken the decision to be a part of the film with all my heart. After ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’, I put a lot of pressure on myself to live up to the expectations of everyone and the audience.” ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ revolves around a young man named Rohit Mehra (Hrithik), who One is not fully developed mentally. He meets an ‘Alien’, a creature from another planet who gives him powers. Rohit and his companions name this creature ‘Jadu’. The film starring Preity Zinta and Rekha was successful at the box office.
The film also starred the then child actors Hansika Motwani, Onkar Purohit, Jai Choksi, Mohit Makkar and Pranitha Bishnoi. Hrithik (49) said the film’s success was the result of the team’s effort. Rakesh Roshan enlisted the help of Australian artists James Callner and Lara Denman to create ‘Jadoo’ and the rest of the film also used minimal VFX. The appreciation of ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ inspired Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik to make ‘Krrish’ (2006) and ‘Krrish 3’ (2013). Hrithik said, “We are taking this franchise forward responsibly. A lot of hard work is being done to ensure that the franchise is at par with global standards.
