When is Satuan and Judsheetal in Bihar?

Satuan It is a major festival celebrated in many states of North India. This festival signals the arrival of summer. The festival of Satuan is celebrated on the day of Aries Sankranti. On this day the Sun enters Aries from Pisces. On this day, Sattu is offered to God as bhog and Prasad of Sattu is eaten. This special festival is celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Purvanchal part of Uttar Pradesh. In Mithila region of Bihar it is known as Jud Sheetal. It is said that the new year started in Mithila from this day itself.

When is Satuan celebrated?

Satuan festival is celebrated on the ninth day of Krishna Paksha of Baisakh month. It is believed that on this day Sun God completes half of his Uttarayan revolution. Every year this festival is celebrated on 14 April. This festival welcomes the summer season. Sattu is eaten as Prasad in this festival, hence its name is Satuan. We all know how beneficial Sattu is in the summer season. Sattu helps in keeping our body cool. This festival is celebrated with a different name in South India

In Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, this special day is celebrated as Vishu Kani festival. It is a symbol of New Year in South India. In the festival of Vishu Kani, sowing festival is celebrated in agricultural fields. On this day, devotees wake up in the morning and after taking bath, first of all they go to the nearby temple to have darshan of Lord Vishnu. On this day, food is prepared in homes from new grains and 14 types of dishes are offered to Lord Vishnu.
