Why did Vicky Kaushal sign Dunky?

Vicky Kaushal caught everyone’s attention with his cameo performance in Dunky. Shahrukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu were in the lead roles in this film directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

In an interview with The Week magazine, Vicky shared how he went to work with the director again after Sanju because he really admires him. In the interview, Vicky told how he had called Rajkumar Hirani for this role after hearing about him.

He said, “I told Raju sir that even if he wanted me to pass by unnoticed, I would happily do so… My father (action director) Sham Kaushal was working on Dunki and Because there was that fire sequence in the character of Sukhi, my father asked Rajkumar Hirani who was playing this character. He wanted to know ‘Who do I have to burn?’

Rajukmar Hirani said that he wanted someone like Vicky, but he did not offer me the film because he thought it was a small role. When my father came home, I asked him how the meeting went. He mentioned the conversation with the director.

Vicky said, to which I said, ‘Really?’ The very next day I called Raju sir and told him that if there has to be someone like me in this, then why not me? I reached his office the same day and said yes without even listening to the script. For the first time I saw the entire film during the screening. I only knew my part.

He further told how much he liked the scenes of Punjab in the film. He said, “I was happy to see Punjab like this after a long time. I told Raju sir that, at a time when everything is difficult and real, where we see the problems and struggles of the states, he really made Punjab look so colourful.

Dinky Dosti is a beautiful saga of crossing international borders illegally, nostalgia for home and love. It made its OTT debut on Netflix on Valentine’s Day this year.
