Chennai | Is Tamil superstar Rajinikanth planning to retire from the film industry after his 171st film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj?

Tamil filmmaker Mysskin said in an interview that Rajinikanth’s proposed film with young director Lokesh Kangaraj could be the last film of the superstar’s film career, triggering speculations in the industry.

The director’s comment went viral on various social media platforms. The revelation has taken social media by storm and many of Rajinikanth’s fans refused to believe it.

A fan said, no, Thalaiva will not take such a decision. Another fan called for an end to the speculation. Fans say that Rajinikanth never talked about retirement and hence they will not believe anyone else.

The 72-year-old superstar’s next big screen release will be ‘Jailor’. The film, directed by Nelson, is slated to release on August 10. Apart from this, he will also be seen in ‘Laal Salaam’ directed by Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya.

Rajinikanth’s 170th film, tentatively titled ‘Thalaivar 170’ will be directed by TJ Gnanavel. This will be followed by ‘Thalaivar 171’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It is likely to be produced by Sun Pictures.

Director Mysskin revealed that Rajinikanth will be collaborating with Vikram and Kanagaraj for his 171st film. According to Mysskin, Rajinikanth himself had approached Lokesh and shown interest in collaborating with him.

Mysskin, who is starring in Lokesh’s film ‘Leo’, added a twist by saying that ‘Thalaivar 171’ could be the last film of Rajini’s career. However, he said that he is not 100 per cent sure about this.

Rajinikanth fans say that the rumors of his retirement from films are not new. Rumors of retirement were rife even after ‘Kaala’ (2018), but the veteran actor continued to sign new films. He hopes that the superstar will not stop entertaining him.
