Will Sonakshi Sinha enter politics like father Shatrughan Sinha? ‘Dahad’ actress revealed many secrets

Sonakshi is seen in your series ‘Dahaad’ OTT, so there is a relief that there is no tension of box office figures or do you feel tight that this role would have come on the big screen?
When I got the offer of this role, I knew since then that this is a series, so there was no such tension. This is my digital debut and it is a new horizon not only for the artists but also for the audience that they can watch it anytime day or night at their convenience. Can watch with family. If there is bold content, then alone. I agree that the feel of cinema is of a different level, but OTT is now catching up with people and both these mediums can co-exist. There is relief from the box office figures, but the only wish is that the reach of the series reaches as many people as possible.

How different was ‘Dahad’ from your other roles?

– Proved to be very different, because when Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti narrated this role to me, I said that no one else can do this role except me. How do I want to do this role? This role came to me when I was waiting for it. I have never done such a role in my career. I am playing the role of a police woman for the first time. Crime-drama is my favorite genre.

Barring a few female-oriented films, heroines do not get strong roles as compared to the heroes, but OTT has brought heroines to the center stage. What would you say?
It is true that in OTT, producer-directors are now giving more attention to heroine-oriented content. In films, the heroine-oriented movie does not get the budget. It has been a custom in films that the audience goes to see the hero’s film. Some women-oriented films are made, some of which do very well. There are films which do as much business as the hero films. But less are made. But on OTT you don’t need to think whether it will work or not? Will there be budget for this or not? Glad that OTT is bringing such subjects and I feel stories of bravery of women should be made.

The series is directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi, so does having a female director change the mood of the film?
Look, I don’t want to fall in the trap of male-female director, but I must say that both Reema and Ruchika are capable directors. Both bring sensitivity to their subject and give it a fresh perspective and the way they approach the subject is amazing for an actor. I really enjoyed working with both of them. Although the style of direction of both is very different, but you will not feel that who would have directed which part or episode. There is a special rapport between the two and special chemistry.

Generally in movies and series we get to see two forms of police. Either they are shown to be corrupt or very honest, what kind of policemen have you come across?
Some time back our trailer was launched and Dr Meera Borwankar appeared in it. She is one of the leading women of IPS, whose stories of bravery are famous. He told what challenges he had to face in the academy. How did she prove herself as a woman in the police department, which is supposed to be a male-dominated field? Got to know a lot by meeting him. He told me that I have portrayed my character Anjali Bhati in a very realistic manner, otherwise these characters usually go over the top while flying cars or fighting.

Your father Shatrughan Sinha has been a well-known actor, you have also got established in films, so how much has your equation with him changed now?

– Our equation is only better than before. He has worked in the industry and after that he changed his field and went towards politics. A lot of things had changed after I entered films. The era of his era used to be different. He is also very curious about today’s era that how the industry works now? what happens now? We discuss about films. He likes to hear my experiences. Whenever I am in a dilemma regarding a script whether to do it or not, I definitely take his advice. The experience they have is nothing less than a treasure for me. They take great pride in my work. Whatever work I do, they like it. He is my biggest admirer.

Would you like to change field like your father? Will you join politics in future?
No, I would not like to join politics. I am not inclined towards politics, yes I have knowledge. Having knowledge is a different thing, but if I go and become a leader, that is a relevant thing. I am a creative person and I am more interested in creative field, so it is not necessary that father has changed his field, so I also follow him. I still have a lot of things to do. Recently I have also become an entrepreneur. I have recently introduced Nails related brand.
