Mumbai : Batting great Sachin Tendulkar has advised his son Arjun to continue working hard and respect the game. Arjun made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. The 23-year-old all-rounder opened the bowling for Mumbai and bowled a total of two overs. His ball was moving to the right-handed batsmen early in the innings. He gave 17 runs and did not get any wicket.
Tendulkar tweeted, “Arjun today (Sunday) you have taken another important step forward in your journey as a cricketer. Being your father, who loves you and is passionate about the game, I know you will continue to give the game the respect it deserves and the game will shower love back on you. “You have worked hard to reach here and I am sure you will continue to do so. This is the beginning of a pleasant journey. Lots of best wishes from my side.
Tendulkar was present at the team’s practice session on Saturday and again in the dressing room before the match on Sunday. Sachin and Arjun Tendulkar are the first father-son duo to play a match in the 15-year history of IPL. It is also a coincidence that both of them played for the same team. Sachin represented Mumbai Indians for six years from 2008 to 2013. Arjun was first bought by five-time IPL champions Mumbai during the 2021 auction for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. Wankhede Stadium is the home ground of Arjun and Mumbai Indians. However, he has been representing Goa since 2022 after not getting a place in the Mumbai team in domestic cricket.
