Hardik Pandya, while bowling in the match against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19, slipped while trying to stop the ball in the follow-through. Due to which he got injured on his ankle and he had to leave the field during the live match. Due to injury, Pandya could not play matches against New Zealand and England.
Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav returned in place of Hardik Pandya in the matches against New Zealand and England. Both the players performed brilliantly with bat and ball, due to which the Indian team once again reached the top of the points table by winning 6 consecutive matches. Shami ‘punched’ the wicket in the match against New Zealand and created a stir by taking four wickets against England. Suryakumar had played a brilliant inning of 49 runs in the match against England.

He further said, India needs Hardik Pandya. Pandya provides the sixth option as a bowler. The former cricketer said, along with bowling, he also bats well.
Hardik Pandya is recovering rapidly. There is a possibility that he may return to the team in the match against Sri Lanka on November 2. Madan Lal said, once Pandya returns, one player may have to sit out of the playing eleven and that is Shreyas Iyer. Iyer has not been able to impress with his performance in the matches played so far and has been seen struggling with the shot ball.
