World Environment Day: These stars are the guardians of the environment, some have planted millions of plants, some are removing plastic

Juhi Chawla has planted 1.25 lakh saplings so far

Renowned actress Juhi Chawla has been associated with environmental issues for more than a decade now. Be it mobile tower radiation or plastic ban or tree plantation, Juhi has been ahead every time. She says, ‘I think, we should celebrate Environment Day everyday. I am very concerned about the environment, that is why be it someone’s anniversary or any auspicious occasion, I do tree plantation. Recently, on the occasion of my daughter Jhanvi’s graduation, I planted 500 saplings. I gifted saplings to Karan Johar on his birthday. I have planted thousand saplings even on my son’s birthday. On one of my birthdays, I appealed to my fans and friends to plant and gift me on my anniversary. 30,000 plantations were done on that birthday and Sadhguru ji thanked me. On my birthday, many of my fellow actors like Farah Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Rakul Preet planted saplings for me. I have planted many saplings in my Gurukul in Porbandar and also in KKR. Altogether, I have planted 1.25 lakh saplings so far. I have also kept my house away from plastic. I think we should not ignore the protection of the environment. May it not be late.

Environment and development must go hand in hand

Be it animal welfare or global warming or plastic clean up drives, powerful actress Raveena Tandon has always played an important role in the protection of the environment. He had said, ‘As a climate warrior, my aim is to make people aware so that they take steps towards protecting the environment.’ He has always advised to stop single use plastic. Land planted on the occasion of World Environment Day will also be a part of the Plantation Drive this year. Like Bhumi, Dia Mirza has always been grassroots on environmental issues. She is the first Indian to become the UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador. The actress has worked tirelessly to bring about a change in the environment. Because of which he was made the ambassador of Wildlife Trust of India. UN Goodwill Ambassador Diya has also been continuously working on plastic pollution, climate change, afforestation, wildlife, biodiversity. He says, ‘I want people to be more active about the environment and this subject (environmental studies) should be made compulsory in our schools. At the same time, Alia Bhatt started an initiative called Co-Exist to make people understand the balance between nature and life. She has run a campaign on social media to cut down on plastic use with the hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution. While Aamir Khan has continuously worked towards watershed management and drought prevention through his organization called Nirantar Water Foundation, he has also been a part of environmental protection programs. The names of many artists like Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar are included in this list.

Well-known environmental activist Afroz Shah, who was recently awarded the Champion of the Earth award by the United Nations, is also a capable lawyer. Afroz, who has been awarded the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Service, has been associated with the world’s largest beach cleaning initiative since 2015. He says, ‘We desperately need to understand that we are not alone on this earth. There are other creatures in it and they too have the same right on the earth. I love the environment, saying will not do. It is necessary to wear the original clothes. Today global warming, plastic pollution, biodiversity loss is increasing, in such a situation our effort should be to practice zero garbage and avoid unnecessary packaging. Eight years back, I started this campaign from Versova beach and since then till now I have removed 80 thousand million kilos of garbage. Countless people have joined this initiative of mine, but when Amitabh Bachchan, Dia Mirza, Pooja Bhatt, Randeep Hooda, Bhumi Pednekar joined this campaign, their fans also got inspired and the caravan kept on growing. Big B has proved to be very important in this journey of mine. They always fulfill our requirements in beach cleaning campaigns. He also got us a tractor for cleaning through his brother-in-law.
