Yami Gautam: Article 370 is going to hit the theaters this Friday. Actress Yami Gautam calls this film very special. She calls this film her first solo theatrical release. She also tells that this is the first film of the production of her director husband Aditya Dhar. Along with this, she also came to know about the good news of her pregnancy during this film. Uri gave a new direction to your career, what are your expectations from this film?

When I spoke to the media for the first time, I said that this film is the essence of so many years of struggle, so many years of hope. The situation in Kashmir before the removal of Article 370 was not hidden from any of us. After Uri, I got very challenging roles, but this film has presented me with the toughest challenge of my career. How I have stood up to those challenges. I will be waiting for its response from the audience.

If we talk about mental and physical challenges, then this Movie What is she related to?

He had understood after reading the script that this journey would not be easy, but he also knew that it would be in these difficulties that I would get such experiences which I would always remember. Our military advisor was Keshavendra Singh, Bhushan Sir was from NSG. He said that using a weapon is a different thing, first you have to learn to hold the weapon in one position. At that time you understand that this is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. Salute to our officers and army who do this kind of work so that we remain safe. We lost our lives in the training itself but it was a lot of fun. Apart from weapon training, we also had physical training. Our coach, Mustafa, was with us. I also lost five to six kilos, but in a very healthy way. No supplements. Did such exercises which had never been done before. While lying on the ground, neither the knees nor the arms touched the ground. My training session in total was for one month.

You are doing action for the first time, so did you look at the monitor a lot after the shot this time?

I look at the monitor. There are many scenes when I do not watch, but when there is an action scene or some other scene, I definitely like to watch the monitor. Having said this, I would like to tell you that I have two to three very intense scenes in the film, but after doing them, I did not look at the monitor because I knew that the tunes were right but where I felt a little doubt. I like to watch the monitor. After looking at the monitor several times, you realize that it could be better and could be different. Well, it is not that one has to watch the monitor only if the director is happy. There is less time and more shots so I don’t look at the monitor.

The news of your pregnancy was received during the shooting of the film, were there any changes in the action sequences of the film?

It would be wrong to say break. I will go with the flow. This is a matter of great fortune. One has to take care of the child as well as work for the whole life. I have seen my mother balancing. By the way, this year I have a film coming with Prateek Gandhi. Its shooting has been completed. Apart from this, a film has been offered, but when will I be able to start shooting for it after pregnancy? It would be too early to say anything on this right now.

What changes has pregnancy brought in your daily routine?

I never used to eat or drink during an interview before. Now I am eating and drinking a lot. There is a standard that during this time you look good and think good, so I also do the same. I haven’t been reading much on the internet to find out why this is happening to me. Why is that happening? The more you think the more worried you will become. I just want to enjoy every moment of this phase.

How is Aditya taking care of you during this time, his very caring nature was revealed during the trailer launch?

This is an everyday thing for me. We are going to become parents so he is taking care of me. It’s not like that. He always takes great care of me. Now that I am reading in the media, I feel that three years have passed, otherwise I feel as if it happened just yesterday.

What was your reaction when 370 was cancelled?

I had the same reaction as every Indian at that time. Everyone thought this was justice. If we look back, it is difficult to compensate for what happened to Kashmiri Pandits. It is time to move forward and progress but somehow by canceling Article 370, we have done little justice to them. Well, this is the most important chapter of our political history.

In the current era, larger than life films are being appreciated a lot, is this film woman centric, so is there more pressure?

I think the story of Article 370 is its hero. By the way, I would like to praise my husband Aditya Dhar, he is the producer of the film. If he wanted, he could have easily made this film a male centric film and could have earned profit, but he has done the casting in a very bold manner and has done only what is original. This is actually a story of female characters only. Well the audience doesn’t discriminate. He always appreciates a good story and good performance, be it male or female.

These days, more political films are being made but still very few actors openly express their political views, what is your opinion on this?

Everyone has political views. If you want to speak, it is your right and if you want to keep a reserve, you also have your right. Many times the words of the actors are presented in a wrong manner, due to which things have gone haywire. In such a situation, it would be better if we reserve our views. However, even when we vote, we do not do so openly. We do that in private.

What is your responsibility in Aditya’s production house?

I have never been good at maths. My contribution remains creative only. A lot of work is done on the script, so I am also involved in it. We are going to make very different films.
