1000 Rupees Note: A message is going viral very fast on social media. It is being claimed in this message that after Rs 2,000 note has been discontinued, now Rs 1,000 note is going to be reintroduced. It is being claimed in the message that Rs 1000 note can be introduced in this financial year.

1000 Rupees Note: Reserve Bank of India has made it clear that it has no plans to introduce a new Rs 1000 note. Nor is the bank considering issuing a new note of Rs 1,000.

News agency ANI has made a post regarding this on X. It said that ANI quoted official sources as saying that RBI is not considering reintroducing Rs 1000 note.

In 2016, Rs 1000 notes were demonetized along with old Rs 500 notes. In place of Rs 1000 notes, the government introduced new Rs 2000 notes. New notes of Rs 500 were also introduced. However, RBI had announced withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation on May 19 this year. This gave rise to speculations about re-introduction of Rs 1000 notes.

Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Friday that Rs 2,000 notes are coming back and now only Rs 10,000 crore worth notes are with the people. Hopefully these notes will also be returned. Earlier, Shaktikanta Das had said that 87 percent of the Rs 2,000 notes withdrawn from circulation have returned as deposits in banks. While the remaining has been replaced with notes of other denominations.

Earlier this month, the RBI had extended the special drive to withdraw Rs 2,000 bank notes till October 7. From October 7, the facility of deposit and exchange of notes in bank branches was stopped.

From October 8, people were given the facility to exchange the notes at 19 RBI offices or deposit the equivalent amount in their bank accounts. Individuals or institutions can exchange Rs 2,000 bank notes up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time at 19 RBI offices. However, there is no limit on the amount for depositing Rs 2,000 notes into bank accounts through RBI offices.
