Bengaluru : Inflation is at its peak in the country and the income of employed people is not increasing according to the rising inflation. But, there is good news for the employees working in the government department and that is that the government has decided to increase their salary. According to media reports, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said that his government has cut salaries of employees of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), electricity supply companies (ESCOMS) by 20 per cent and those of transport corporations by 15 per cent. It has been decided to increase the per cent.
Government’s big decision before assembly elections
According to media reports, the decision was taken a few weeks before the assembly elections after several rounds of talks between KPTCL, ESCOMS and Transport Corporation employees and the government, who have been demanding a pay hike for a long time. Chief Minister Bommai said that KPTCL and ESCOMS employees had demanded revision of wages. Our minister (Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar) and the employees discussed for two-three days after which we could take a decision. I agree to 20% hike in salary and orders will be issued in this regard.
Salary was not increased for two years
While talking to the media, he said that the employees of the Transport Department have also been demanding salary hike and they say that there has been no increase in salary for the last two years. After two-three rounds of talks with Transport Minister Sriramulu and officials, I decided to increase their salary by 15 per cent. Orders will be issued in this regard also.

According to officials, the hike in salary will be effective from April 1. Employees of KPTCL and ESCOMS have called off the proposed protest on Thursday after talks with the Chief Minister on Wednesday night. The Joint Action Committee of the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) trade union had earlier called for an indefinite strike from March 21 over the wage hike. Assembly elections in Karnataka are to be held by May, but the date has not been announced yet.
