New Delhi. Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that so far 17,176 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) have been registered to function as Common Service Centers (CSCs). These packs will be able to provide more than 300 services like banking, insurance and Aadhaar enrollment in rural areas. Shah said that there are around 95,000 PACS across the country and soon all CSCs will be operational. He said that in the next few years, about three lakh new PACS would be set up, which would be able to provide these services from the very beginning. He was addressing the National Seminar on Delivery of CSC Services through PACS here.
Shah said, today both PACS and CSC are connecting with each other. This will not only increase facilities for the poor, but will also give new energy and new strength to the rural economy. He informed that till Thursday afternoon around 17,176 PACS have registered themselves to work as CSCs. Out of this, 6,670 PACS have also started transactions. Shah said that in the coming 1-2 weeks, rest of the registered PACS will also start transacting. With this, about 13-14 thousand youth will get employment as operators. The Minister said that CSCs would soon start rail reservation service and efforts were also on to allow them to book tickets for air travel.
An MoU was signed in February to enable PACS to provide CSC services. The MoU was signed between Ministry of Cooperation, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, NABARD and CSC e-Governance Services India Limited. These packs can give all the services listed on the Digital Seva Portal of the CSC scheme to the citizens. These include banking, insurance, Aadhaar enrolment, legal services, agricultural products and equipment, PAN card, IRCTC, rail, bus and air ticket related services etc.
Shah said, if the cooperative movement has to be strengthened then PACS, its smallest unit, has to be strengthened first and therefore the Modi government has taken several steps to modernize them. Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on the occasion that the number of active CSCs has increased from 83,000 in 2014 to 5.19 lakh at present. He said that with PACS acting as CSCs, the rural population would now be able to avail many services at a very low cost. They will have easy access to government schemes.
