28% increase in railway earnings, 2000 wagons added every month

New Delhi : Indian Railways has so far achieved an additional income of Rs 41,000 crore on an annual basis in the current financial year 2022-23. According to the information given by the Railways, a revenue of Rs 1,91,162 crore has been received so far in the current financial year. In the same period a year ago, it had earned a revenue of Rs 1,48,970 crore. According to statistics, the Railways has carried 1185 million tonnes of goods so far in the current financial year. Railways is expecting a total revenue of Rs 2,35,000 crore in the current financial year 2022-23.

Annual income target can be revised

According to media reports, the increasing demand for freight during the current financial year 2022-23 has prompted the Railways to add around 2000 wagons every month to its system. With this, the Railways is all set to achieve the full year target in the next few weeks with its earnings at 81 per cent of the budgeted target of Rs 2,35,000 crore for the current financial year. There are still 10 days left for the presentation of the budget, but it is being told that after the presentation of the budget, the income target of the Railways can also be revised.

Passenger revenue at record level

Passenger revenue is at its record high of Rs 52,000 crore during the current financial year till January 18, higher than the Rs 51,000 crore earned during the financial year 2018-19, official data showed. With this, freight earnings have increased by 15.6 per cent to reach Rs 1.3 lakh crore in the current financial year till January 18.

Transportation of coal and iron ores increased

Official sources said that a huge increase in loading has been recorded in many sections. There are about 530 rakes for the coal sector, which are currently being loaded across the country. Whereas, a year ago there were only 465 rakes for coal. Similarly, for iron ore loading, the number of rakes has increased from 108 to 117 in a day.
