This year it crossed the $105 billion mark. During this time India has become the second largest producer of mobile phones. Under the PLI scheme for the IT hardware sector, the government will allocate an incentive of Rs 17,000 crore within six years.

New Delhi. A total of 32 companies, including global giants such as Foxconn, HP, Dell and Lenovo, have applied under the driven production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the hardware sector of information technology (IT). Electronics and Information Technology (IT) Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told reporters on Wednesday that the Rs 17,000-crore PLI scheme for IT hardware has received an overwhelming response from companies.

He said that more number of companies have applied for this than expected. Vaishnav said that a total of 32 applications have been received so far under the PLI for IT Hardware scheme. Companies that have applied include Flextronics, Dixon, Acer, Thompson, VVDN, as well as global companies such as Foxconn, HP, Dell and Lenovo. Through the PLI scheme brought for the IT hardware sector, there is an attempt to increase the domestic production of equipment such as laptops, all-in-one PCs, servers and tablets.

The companies selected under this scheme will get incentives from the government. This scheme is also important in the sense that the government has announced to impose various restrictions on the import of IT equipment like laptops and tablets from November 1. Now these products cannot be imported directly and for this it will be necessary to take a license. Vaishnav said, India is emerging as a reliable supply chain partner and value-added partner. Companies are happy to come to India for manufacturing and design. Manufacturing of electronics products in India has grown at an annual rate of 17 percent in the last eight years.

This year it crossed the $105 billion mark. During this time India has become the second largest producer of mobile phones. Under the PLI scheme for the IT hardware sector, the government will allocate an incentive of Rs 17,000 crore within six years. The scheme is expected to generate an incremental generation of about Rs 3.35 lakh crore. This is likely to provide direct employment to 75,000 people. Vaishnav said that Dixon has also set up its plant in Noida where production will start soon. However, most of the companies will start production from April, 2024.
