New Delhi: Six people have died in a terrible accident in a family of Jalandhar due to refrigerator explosion. Why does the refrigerator explode?
If we talk about the refrigerator bursting, it is not actually the refrigerator that bursts, but a part of the refrigerator. That part is called compressor. The compressor is installed on the back-side of the refrigerator. It has a pump and a motor attached to it. This motor sends refrigerant gas to the coils through a pump.
As soon as this gas cools down it turns into liquid. It absorbs the heat from the refrigerator and cools everything kept inside. Let us tell you that, when this normal method becomes abnormal then the compressor bursts. In fact, when the compressor continuously rotates the refrigerant, the back part of the refrigerator starts heating up.
When this happens the condenser coils start shrinking. Due to their shrinking, the path of gas gets obstructed and it is unable to come out. As it starts collecting inside the coil, the pressure starts increasing. After a certain limit, this pressure takes the form of a dangerous explosion.
What precautions should be taken:
1. You will know by the sound of the fridge whether it is okay or not. If you hear a uniform sound of the compressor then it means it is fine. If the compressor is making a very loud noise or there is no sound coming from it at all, then understand that something is wrong.
2. Do not keep the refrigerator close to the wall. There should be adequate space between the fridge and the wall.
3. If excess heat is coming from behind the refrigerator then it would not be right to ignore it.
4. If the fridge is not cooling things properly then you should call a technician.
5. If the fridge is more than 10 years old, keep getting it checked from time to time.
