Benefit of Ujjwala scheme scheme one more year
The government on Friday extended the subsidy of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for one year. This step has been taken in view of the increase in the prices of petroleum products in the international market. This initiative will benefit 9.6 crore families. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the subsidy of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder to the beneficiaries of PMUY. This subsidy will be given for 12 LPG cylinders of 14.2 kg per year.
As on March 1, 2023, there were 9.59 beneficiaries under PMUY. The minister said that this would entail an expenditure of Rs 6,100 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 7,680 crore in 2023-24. In this the subsidy is deposited directly into the bank accounts of the eligible beneficiaries. Thakur said that due to various international developments, the international price of LPG has increased rapidly. In such a situation, it is important to save the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana from the high prices of LPG. An official release said that the support under PMUY to the consumers in the form of subsidy incentivises them for continued use of LPG. It is important to ensure sustained LPG adoption and usage among PMUY consumers so that they completely switch to the clean cooking fuel.
