Aadhaar-Pan Link: Linking Aadhaar card with PAN card has been made mandatory by the Central Government. In the country, 11.5 crore PAN cards which were not linked to Aadhaar card have been closed by the government. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in the information sought under the Right to Information Act that the last date for linking Aadhaar-PAN was June 30. Those who have not done so, their PAN card has been closed.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has told that more than 70 crore people in the country have PAN card. Out of this, 57.25 crore PAN card holders have linked their PAN and Aadhaar before the date given by the government. Whereas, 12.75 crore PAN card holders have still not done the linking work.

PAN cards of 11.5 crore people who have not linked Aadhar Pan Card have been deactivated by the government till now. This RTI was filed by RTI activist Chandrashekhar Gaur of Madhya Pradesh.

In the order given by the Central Government, it was said that people making PAN card before July 1, 2017 will have to link the PAN card with Aadhaar. After this, the PAN card of the people is issued by linking it to Aadhaar. Linking PAN-Aadhaar has been made mandatory under Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act.

However, people whose PAN card has been closed can get it restarted. For this they will have to pay a fine of one market rupee. However, experts say that a fee of Rs 91 is charged by the government for making a new PAN card. Then, why is such a high fee being charged for restarting a closed PAN? The government needs to think again about its decision.

People are facing a lot of problems due to not linking Aadhar card and PAN card. Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that people whose PAN has been closed will not be able to claim tax refund. Along with this, you will not be able to open current bank account, demat account and mutual fund account. Along with this, you will not be able to make payment of more than Rs 50 thousand.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes said that if people whose PAN card has been closed buy a car, they will have to pay more tax. No account will be opened in the bank except FD and savings account. Along with this, the person will also not be able to apply for credit or debit cards.
