Now the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has said in an official statement that they have made the document update facility for Aadhaar online free till June 14. This change has been made under the Digital India initiative.

Till now the Aadhaar card holder had to pay a fee of Rs 25 online and Rs 50 offline for any kind of update in his card. That is, if you used to update the document by going to the Aadhaar Center, then Rs 50 was charged. On the other hand, if this work was done through the Aadhaar portal, then a fee of Rs 25 had to be paid. It has now been made free for three months.

  • Go to the Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal and click on the option ‘Proceed to Update Address’.

  • Login using Aadhaar number, registered mobile number and OTP.

  • Click on ‘Proceed to update address’.

  • Enter the 12 digit Aadhaar number and click on ‘Send OTP’.

  • Enter OTP and login.

  • Enter the new address after selecting the option ‘Update New Address Proof’.

  • After this, select the documents to be submitted as address proof.

  • Upload the scanned copy of the address proof and click on ‘Submit’ button.

  • The Aadhaar update request will be accepted and a 14-digit Update Request Number will be generated.

Why is Aadhaar Card Update Necessary?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is asking Indians to upload ID Proof and Address Proof (POI / POA) documents to re-verify their details, especially if your Aadhaar was issued more than 10 years ago and Never updated. The government says that this will help in making life easier and providing better service.

So if there is a need to change the demographic details (name, date of birth, address), you can use the regular online update service, or visit the nearest Aadhaar center. Normal charges will be applicable in such cases. It is important to note that this service is free only on the My Aadhaar portal and Rs 50 will continue to be charged at physical Aadhaar centres, the statement said.
