AAI returns to profit, Rs 3,400 crore profit in 2022-23

Returning to profits, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has earned a profit of Rs 3,400 crore in the last financial year (2022-23). Sources said that AAI has got this profit due to increase in domestic air traffic. AAI has made profits for the first time since the Covid pandemic. AAI had a loss of Rs 803.72 crore in the financial years- 2021-22 and Rs 3,176.12 crore in 2020-21. A source told PTI that AAI has made a net profit of Rs 3,400 crore in 2022-23. This is a provisional figure and the final figure will be known after the audit of the financial results. The source also said that the good performance was mainly due to a sharp increase in domestic air traffic.
Domestic air passenger traffic to increase by 47.05 percent year-on-year to 12.32 crore in 2022. According to official data, the number of passengers increased by 51.70 per cent to 3.75 crore in the first three months of this year, as against 2.47 crore in the same period a year ago. AAI manages 137 airports, which include 24 international and 80 domestic airports. It also provides Air Traffic Management Services (ATMS) in the entire Indian airspace and adjoining sea areas.
